Write the Songs
That Have Always
Been Inside You

Our Philosophy

Songwriting is a craft.
Treat it like one.

Detailed close-up of an acoustic guitar, showcasing strings and wood texture.

Most songwriting resources fall into two camps: theoretical textbooks that leave you cold, or commercial programs that treat your art like a product. Melodraft was built for the songwriter in between — the one who writes regularly, feels the songs inside them, but struggles to shape them into something finished and real.

Our workshops are small by design. Twelve writers, maximum. A skilled facilitator who listens as hard as they teach. A structure that honors both the mystery of inspiration and the discipline of revision. We believe the songs you have in you deserve to exist in the world.

We draw from the traditions of great song — folk, Americana, singer-songwriter, pop — without prescribing any single path. What we give you is a room full of people who care as much as you do, and the tools to make your work matter.

  • Craft over formula

Deep listening and honest feedback — not "10 hit-writing rules."

  • Community over isolation

Your best work comes when you write alongside people who get it.

  • Finish over perfect

We help you get songs out of your notebook and into the world.

“Where songs find their shape.”

From the Community

“I'd been writing for seven years and never finished a song I was proud of. After the Foundation Workshop, I had three. Melodraft didn't teach me rules — it taught me to trust myself.”

Sarah M.

Austin, TX · Foundation Workshop graduate

“The Mountain Retreat cracked something open. Being in a room with eleven other writers who take their craft this seriously — that's an experience you can't manufacture online.”

David R.

Portland, OR · Mountain Retreat 2024

“I came in thinking I was a pretty good lyricist. I left knowing how much better I could be. The feedback was the most honest, most useful I've ever received.”
